Apple iPod Touch apps/games : Review - Knights Onrush.

Just found a brilliant new game for the iPod touch/iPhone called
Knights Onrush, an updated version of Stick Wars using better graphics
& slightly different gameplay, the object is still the same to protect
your castle from onrushing hoardes of enemies upgrading your castle
inbetween rounds.
The real fun of this game is the little things like a hook you suspend
an enemy from where soon enough a dragon descends & devours him or the
fact that if you trip up a petardier ( bomber ) before he launches his
petard it detonates wiping out anything around it including other
petardiers causing chain reactions.
Anyway the Hours of fun I have already had with this game more than
justify the $ 1.19 price tag.
You can get it through the Apple Apps store.

My favorite television programs : Number One

My favorite television programs : Number One

I have a soft spot for British police shows, I have a great affection
for a police force that do the majority of their work without the aid
of firearms.
This said one of my all time favorite shows is " The Bill " from it's
early days of two half hour shows to todays high production value 45
minute episodes . The stories have remained topical & well written,
forensic techniques are based on real world technology & forensic
science, unlike cop shows from the USA where rules of forensic law &
technology are flouted repeatedly each & every episode.
Also general police procedure is adhered to where at the end of the
day the prosecution of a case is down to the Crown Prosecuter again
something that is regularly ignored in American police drama.
Anyhow if you want a new sort of police show that adheres to reality
instead of Hollywood fantasist bullshit, give The Bill a look see
trust me you will get sucked in.

For Australian Readers you can see The Bill on Saturday nights on ABC1
@ 8:30pm repeated on ABC2 on Tuesday night @ 9:30pm also repeats from
earlier in the series show up on ABC2 @ 2pm weekdays when Parliment
isn't Sitting.

Apples iPod Touch 2nd gen with version 3 OS : Review

I have fallen in love with the iPod Touch from Apple. I bought it back
in December 2008 mainly as a video capable mp3 player & as that it
really is quite good ok the sound quality isn't great, but if you want
brilliant sound go buy a top end audio player or pc audio card, really
for most of us using decent headphones the sound is fine.
The iPod Touch goes further however it really is a small personal
computer & portable gaming device as well, I use it instead of a
laptop or netbook. I VNC into virtual machines running on my main pc &
am able to control them as if I were there, most of my email is done
via the iPod as well, the blog post you are reading was done through
email on the Touch.
The OS 3 upgrade fixed any problems that existed in the originan 2nd
gen, the ability to cut copy / past was essential & after much
complaining we finally got it.
The gaming performance is good equal to the PSP & better tha the DS
the accellerometer adds a new form of control to portable gaming & the
variety of games available through the Apps Store is great & there are
quite a few available for FREE, this goes for other apps as well take
the Skype app which ( with the aid of microphone enhanced headphones
or Bluetooth earpiece/mike) turns your Touch into a wireless iPhone,
wireless network scanners (essential for finding open & free network
connections, online storeage apps ( enhance your storeage whereever
you can get online ), remote control apps, an iTunes remote control,
wireless trackpad/keyboard as well as the above mentioned VNC client
enable the iPod Touch to remotely control your computers & software.
I could rave for pages about the pros of owning an iPod Touch There
are 1 or 2 small problems but nothing really major & OS 3 upgrade
really has made this the mobile media device to own.

The druz rating is 8.75 out of a possible 10.

Suggestion : get one with 16gb not 8Gb !!!.

More Video Podcasts I Enjoy!.

Another site with a few programs I enjoy is Revision3 check out their
programs at

http://m.revision3.com/allshows.php?id=-1

My favorite is Tekzilla with the cute Tech-Chick Veronica Belmont !.

Video Podcasts I Enjoy!. #1

I watch a lot of online content, I chose a large, fast, adsl plan
instead of Cable TV.
I had always thought that cable tv had less ads than regular
television until I saw the reality & decided that the Internet is the
way to go since then I have seen a huge increase in the quality video
available through the Internet .
Among my favorites are several Cnet Shows they are a great source of
both infomation & enterainment.

Will take you to their podcast portal where you can get downloadable
versions of their shows.

On Public Expressions of Grief

What, in the hell do we think we're doing , Michael Jackson dies &
suddenly we are all grieving for him,
We didn't actually know him & in some cases villified him for his "
peculiar behaviour ".
Misguided at best, grossly hypocritical at worst.
We have all been led by the sensationalist celebrity media to believe
that we actually know these people, but we don't .
What we do know has been spoon fed to us by these gossip mongers in
order to sell product & some of this is via the celebrities own
publicity machine.
Look at the furore around Princess Di, now most of the media involved
in that shameful exploitation of a families real grief & wish that
the children have some privacy during the days following her death,
admit they got it wrong.
We have no right to grieve for people we didn't really know that is
for the family & friends,
What we can grieve is that these deaths bring us into contact with the
absolute & undeniable Fact that we will DIE one day but grieving over
the inevitable is rediculous but human.
C'mon human kind let's grow up & stop living our lives vicariously
through the celebrity media. A life lived in the real world is much
stranger & wonderful than you can imagine.

Televisions current fixation with the Vampire, occult & psychics

Twighlight, Moonlight,The Vampire diaries,Medium & Supernatural just
to name a few of the numerous television series concerning the
paranormal / occult.
These shows & those of it's kind are a Canker on the festering sore
that is commercial television today.
An excuse for television executives to pander to the emo/goth youth &
romantic type females of any age ( you know the type, they love the
bodice ripper genre of entertainment) & for lazy writers & producers
to make names for themselves ( that they don't deserve ).
We the viewer deserve better than this regurgitated (mostly American)
network Bullshit fantasist, sometimes racist & always of doubtful moral
value.
There is space for originality in television & until we the viewing
public Demand it!, we will keep getting force fed the same old shit
again & again from the television companies.

The future of computing ?, part 1

This is where I think the future of computing is going, you'll have
one of these babies tucked away running god knows how many Virtual
Desktops & you'll connect to them remotely on a laptop, tablet,
smartphone or iPod touch http://www.nvidia.com/object/personal_supercomputing.html
Ok at the moment it's really expensive but prices will drop, what I
can't get my head around is everybody raving about 8 cores & here we
have machines with 250+ cores & only about 3 times the price of a low
end I7 machine.
I guess Intel just have a better publicity machine than Nvidia but
really these tech journalists who claim to be up to date on the
"latest" in technology miss or ignore something like this shows that
they really are just idiots with a pavlonian reponse for publishing
regurgitated press releases; Really you guys comb the web & use a
little imagination.
You should be pushing this sort of advance in technology rather than
condemning it to an obscure corner of the tech world ( I found it
through a search for cluster computing).

Firefox web browser | Faster, more secure, & customizable

If you haven't already go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html
& download latest edition.
If you continue to use IE then on your own head be it, microsoft's
piece of rubbish has been the cause of many system vunerabilities in
the past & will continue to do so while they tie it in to Windows so
much. Do your computer a favor get Firefox ditch IE you'll be much
happier as a result.
eg. Less attacks on your machine means less stress to you & less
stress usually results in more happiness.

Operating System Rivalry

God I'm sick of Apple this & Microsoft that & all the while the simple cousin Linux hangs out around the fringes. Don't get me wrong this is not a Linux Booster story Although Linux is a totally usable OS & has more CRAP (& in some cases out & out LIES) written about it than any other OS; But is more about the absolute mind numbing BULLSHIT so called Rivalry between the OS's.
Most of this "rivalry" has of course been generated by the companies involved Apple & Microsoft as well as the LAZY Tech "journalists" who rather than research claims made in press releases & press events just re-gurgitate the claims as facts, You Know who you are, Hang your heads in shame !.
But with Virtualization technology all of these arguments fall by the wayside operating systems will be running side by side on the same machine as soon as Apple figures out the money it could make by selling OSX to non-Apple hardware Owners (they could even sell it as a pre-configured Virtual Machine thus maintaining their monopolistic hold over it).
As it stands now I run an extremley light linux install with several linux & Windows VM's I will run up to 3 of these VM's at any time VNC-ing into each and controlling them through a remote client (laptop, smartphone or iPod touch). This setup maximizes my main computers "bang for buck" potential using all the cores & most of the memory (assuming that each machine is working) .
So a heads up to all of those perpetuating The OS Wars out there all of your arguments are about to become totally redundant as are you, Unless you can foster a new so called war , Hmmm, Facebook v's Twitter maybe.....
